CoreFit Member Highlight- Mike “Southy” Southworth
“Spartan The F*ck Up” has helped me through more than a few tough workouts. Usually, just telling yourself that what you’re going through in that moment will ultimately make you better in many areas of your life is enough to keep going. Remembering past successes helps, too.
I’d say the transformation in my upper body strength. At the Las Vegas Spartan Race this year, I was finally able to complete the Hercules Hoist by myself. I’m not a huge guy, so that was a big accomplishment.
I can’t have any kind of chips in the house or I eat them all. 73% of the reason I go to movies is for the popcorn. Nachos are my kryptonite.
I love how all the members are so supportive of each other. I get inspired by the early birds who post on social media about the morning workouts. It makes me want to get off my butt and get to the gym.
If you could sit down to lunch with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would you choose to have lunch with and why? My mom. I never got to know her as an adult, so that would be interesting. However, dead people are typically lousy at lunch conversation, so I guess David Letterman. He’s my comedy hero.
What are your main hobbies outside of CoreFit? I enjoy my job, comedy, baseball, current events and love to learn new things. Anything, really. I’m a curious person.
Thanks to our Friday morning classes and Spartan races, I’ve grown to really enjoy trail running. Thrusters and Toes-To-Bars still kick my tail, but I’m working on it.
How to choose? I was so impressed with Kurt (and the CoreFit gang) getting the new gym up and running in about one month’s time. And being there last year to see fellow CoreFitter Anne Johnson finish the Seattle Spartan Beast with an amazing kick to the finish line was pretty dang awesome.
